Six Ways To Dress Up Your Smile

In a few days, you’ll see people of all ages dressed in costumes. Some will be monsters. Others will be superheroes, aliens, or some other kind of character from movies or television shows.

Those costumes are fun to put on and wear for a night, but what if you want to make a more lasting change? What if you want to make a change that changes how you feel about yourself? A change that could boost your self-confidence?

Cosmetic dentistry could do that for you. We’ve seen it happen more times than we can count at our San Diego, CA dental office.

If you want a better smile, call the office of Brian Davey, DDS, at 858-762-9991 to schedule an appointment. In the meantime, take a moment to read about some of the services that might be just right for you!

1. Create a New Bond

Dental bonding is a non-invasive, fast, and easy way to give your smile a boost.

Bonding is an effective solution for a number of problems. It can be used to repair chips and cracks. It can close gaps between teeth, and it can change the shape of uneven or worn-down teeth.

Using a composite resin, we can add a little something to your smile. The resin is hardened and polished so it blends in naturally with the rest of your smile. With proper care, dental bonding can last for years. It’s also one of the least expensive ways to change the look of your teeth.

2. Reframe Your Smile

Your teeth are a big part of your smile — or you want them to be. If you have a “gummy” smile, you can feel self-conscious when meeting new people or when someone asks to take your picture.

Whether you have a higher-than-average amount of gum tissue or your teeth appear “short,” Dr. Davey can help. By removing targeted gum tissue, you can create a new frame for your teeth. This can allow your teeth to be much more noticeable when you do smile.

At one time, the only way to do this procedure was with a scalpel and stitches. Not at our office! Dr. Davey has dental lasers that can gently remove gum tissue. The can reduce your recovery time, too, so you can start showing off your new smile!

3. Straighten Up

Everyone would love to have perfectly straight teeth, yet few people are lucky enough to have this naturally.

Many people underwent orthodontic care as teenagers only to have the teeth shift back as they got older. Many other people never had braces, but would now like to have a straight smile.

Invisalign® may be the perfect solution if you are among either of those groups of people. Unlike braces, Invisalign does not involve brackets or wire. Instead, Invisalign users receive a series of custom-designed clear aligners to wear. Each aligner is worn for a few weeks, and each one gently pushed your teeth a little closer to a straight position.

When worn as directed, you could have a new smile in 12 to 18 months depending on the particular problems you are trying to correct.

4. Fix It Fast

Dental veneers are easily one modern dentistry’s most versatile services. Veneers can correct a range of issues at the same time. They can completely transform your smile in as little as one day. Thanks to our CEREC milling machine, we may be able to make your veneers in our office while you wait.

If you get veneers, you are essentially putting a new facade on your smile. By removing a thin layer of enamel, you create room to bond custom-designed veneers to fit your smile.

Veneers effectively conceal your teeth to create the appearance of the smile you want to present to the world. Because of these, veneers can be used to:

  • Close gaps between teeth
  • Make “short” teeth look larger
  • Fix one tooth or multiple teeth at the same time
  • Make smiles looks straighter
  • Repair broken, chipped, and worn-down teeth
  • Make dark teeth look bright again

5. Go Pro to Brighten Your Smile

As people get older, it’s normal and natural for their teeth to become yellow or stained. The foods we eat (colorful sauces, delicious desserts, and more) and drink (coffee, tea, wine, etc.) tend to leave a little something behind.

Over time, those little things add up, causing our smiles to stop being the “pearly whites” that we would like them to be.

You may have attempted to remove the stains with the whitening products you can find at the store, but you may have been disappointed with the end result. We know. Several patients have come to us with similar stories.

It’s why you are better off asking about professional teeth whitening instead. We offer both in-office and take-home treatments, so you can choose the one that fits your schedule.

Our professional whitening products contain higher concentrations of bleaching agents. When used as directed, they can remove deep stains in less time than the commercial options you can find in the toothpaste aisle.

If you want a white smile again, going pro is your best bet.

6. Find the Right Combination

Maybe you have more than one issue you would like to fix. If so, then you may be more interested in a smile makeover than a single service.

Dr. Davey can talk to you about the issues you want to solve. Together, you can develop a plan to help you create the smile of your dreams.
