Know Where To Go For Dental Emergency Care

With the new school year, fall sports season has arrived. Many teams have already started practicing, and some have even played their first games of the year.

Whether you are the parent of a young child, a high school or collegiate athlete, or an adult playing in a recreational league, we hope you enjoy what you are doing. Sports are a great way to stay fit and motivation to keep in shape. At the same time, there is some risk involved, which is why we hope you will avoid a dental emergency.

If something does go wrong, like a ball knocks out a tooth or an accidental collision causes a broken tooth, please call (858) 762-9991 right away.

Our team at the office of Brian Davey, DDS, wants you to fix your problem as soon as possible. The sooner you reach out to our Torrey Highlands dentist office, the sooner we can help you.

Know Where To Go

Scouts will tell you to “Be Prepared.” That’s a good motto and even better advice for your life. If you are doing anything, like playing sports, you should be aware of the potential risks. A vast majority of the time, you aren’t going to have serious problems, but if you do, it’s important to know how to react.

Having a family dentist office that you can trust to handle emergency dental situations is important. Our goal is to treat patients with emergencies as quickly as we can. We will make every effort to see you on the same day that you call if it is at all possible.

Our team of dental professionals understands that when you are having an oral health emergency, you want to stop the pain. Then we can discuss solutions to repair your smile and restore the full function of your teeth.

Be Proactive

One of the best things you can do for yourself and your family is wearing an athletic mouthguard any time you take the field or the court. Whether you are practicing or competing, mouthguards offer added protection for your teeth and your jaw.

In fact, the American Dental Association has reported that athletes who wear mouthguards are 60 times less likely to suffer dental injuries compared to athletes who don’t protect their teeth.

So who should wear mouthguards? In truth, the ADA and the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend mouthguards for any high-impact sport.

This includes contact sports (e.g. football) and combat sports (e.g. wrestling), but it goes beyond that. Soccer, basketball, volleyball, field hockey, lacrosse, and many more sports are considered high-impact for one or more reasons. Changing speeds and directions, jumping, flying objects (e.g. balls, pucks), and, yes, physical contact are all reasons sports are considered high-impact.

Wearing a mouthguard can save your teeth and your jaw from serious injuries. For the best protection, you should wear a custom-fitted mouthguard, according to the ADA, the AAPD, and other professional dental organizations. We can make this kind of mouthguard for you at our office.

Play Your Best

A dental emergency is bad for a number of reasons. But if you do experience one, Dr. Davey and the rest of our team is here to support you. That include making athletic mouthguards to reduce your chances of having an emergency dental problem.
